JET ENGINE TURBINE RING DOVETAILS

This is the hub of a rotating turbine disc of a jet engine. The dovetails are cut by wire EDM with all pressure faces within 0.0006" contour tolerance.

Aerospace - Microwave horn

6 INCH SQUARE BLOCK OF 6061T6 ALUMINUM CONVERTED TO A MICROWAVE HORN USING ONLY WIRE EDM. ALL WALL THICKNESSES 0.020”. PRIOR TO THIS METHOD, THESE HORNS WERE FABRICATED FROM PIECES OF SHEET METAL BRAISED AT THE JOINS.

The customer needed this ring split into 2 halves WITHOUT ANY MATERIAL LOSS!

While that was impossible, we were able to restrict the loss to 0.011" by using 0.008" diameter EDM wire to separate the halves.

Tall Parts

Customer needed a square hole machined all the way through a 49" long aluminum bar.

We extended the wire EDM machine, gun drilled a start hole, threaded the wire & within a cut the required contour.
